The drummer says"There's a song that started off as an idea that I worked on with (them), so I was happy to finish it off with this band and have it come out. It's called Save Me. You'll notice it in the riff. You'll hear a slight Zepesque riff ... it's got a definite feel to it."

“They are the most normal bunch of guys you could be around,” he reflected. “At one point we were in rehearsal, and this old lady turned up with sandwiches: ‘Robert, here you are, I put an extra pickle on for you ... Jimmy, yours are here; John, here's your salad.’ When we took a break, everyone would take a section of the newspaper and read. And I'm going, ‘Where's the debauchery? Where's the upside down crosses and naked girls and sacrificial tables with virgins on them?’ But, boy, when they played ... The key to me pulling off the gig was that all I was only looking for was the reassurance from the three guys on stage. I didn't care that anyone else was in the audience.”

After the success of the O2 show, there was great anticipation that Led Zeppelin might continue on together. But singer Robert Plant proved unwilling to relaunch the band that broke up in 1980 after John Bonham’s death.

“Robert always expressed to me: ‘Jason, you know I love you, I loved your dad, and I know how great you are as a player. And on the night, you were great. But to me Led Zeppelin's John, not Jason.’ Although it would benefit me to go do it, I also agree with what he says. I understand.”

Guitarist Jimmy Page Led Zeppelin band to release a photographic autobiography. The our self titled book will be released on September 27 and includes 650 photographs by page personally selected.

Genesis Publications report it as a “optical history of his vocation as one of the world’s most iconic to the guitar players”. The book will cost £445 and now is available to pre order from genesis publications.com.

Meanwhile, Page discovered in June that he was recently working on a new album.

At London's 02 reunion Led Zeppelin frontman Robert Plant has admitted the band’s 2007 reunion was “too heavy” for him, and he avoided partying with Liam and Noel Gallagher afterwards in favour of going for a few drinks on his own.

The 61 year old vocalist who performed alongside fellow surviving members Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones, as well as the late John Bonham’s son Jason at the gig told Mojo magazine: "Twenty minutes after we finished, the Gallagher brothers were leaning on the door of my dressing room and one of them said, 'You're the actual feeling thing, you are.' I said, 'I've known that all down the line but I think you required to go a little further round the corridor, next door on the left.' And I went. “I ended up in the Marathon pub, drank four bottles of lager and half a bottle of vodka then went to bed. Because I had to get away from it. I'd done it. Had to go. It was too incredible.”In the past, the rocker has voiced his fears about the surviving members of Led Zeppelin reuniting for a full tour as he doesn’t want to tarnish the group’s legacy. He said: "To visit old ground, it's a very heavy delicate thing to do, and the disappointment that could be there onec you commit to that and the comparisons to something that was basically fired by youth and a different kind of exuberance to now, its very hard to go back and meet that head on and do it justice."

Led Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page has been inducted into the Mojo Hall Of Fame at the magazine's award ceremony.
The best album prize won the Singer Richard Hawley, while Kasabian's single Fire was named song of the year.
But Florence and the Machine, who led the field with four nominations before the London event, was overlooked.
Page, who last won a Mojo award for the 2007 Led Zeppelin reunion, revealed he was working on new material with a number of different projects.
He has been taken on by Robbie Williams' management company IE.
He said,"I'm just looking forward to making some music and surprising people with it".
"It won't be just teaming up with lots of people who are (big) names. I've got an idea of something which I've had for a long time and now's the time to do it." But he declined to give further details about his collaborators or his new direction.
Mojo is now the best selling music magazine in the UK, selling more than twice as many copies as NME.
Five winners were voted for by Mojo readers, including best album, best single and best live act. That category saw US act Midlake beat Kasabian, Arctic Monkeys and Florence and the Machine.
A further 16 honorary prizes were handed out. They included the classic album award, which went to The Stone Roses for their 1989 self titled debut LP.
Bassist Mani, who picked up the trophy, said it was "gratefully received".
Asked why there were few new guitar bands making a splash in the way The Stone Roses did, Mani replied: "Bands of my era had a whacked out agenda. They walked it, they lived it, they breathed it.
"(They were) not necessarily the best musicians in the world. I think what's wrong with British music at the moment is people are too career orientated. They're afraid, or record companies will not allow them to take risks, and that just makes everything so uniform." A number of other acts from the 1980s were also honoured, including Marc Almond, Jean Michelle Jarre and Teardrop Explodes.
Teardrop Explodes were due to reunite for the first time in 28 years to accept the Mojo inspiration award, but singer Julian Cope did not turn up.
Keyboard player David Balfe said: "At seven o'clock I was told, 'He's going to be there - he likes to make an entrance.' At eight o'clock, 'He's going to be here.' Then we got a text - and he's not here."
Balfe went on to establish record label Food, which signed Blur.
Mojo editor Phil Alexander said: "The 80s are almost the new 60s. You can hear the influence of that decade everywhere.
"The aspects of the 80s we chose to celebrate at the Mojo Honours List reflect the genuine innovation of that period and I think you sense that the best music made at that time has had a massive impact on the musicians of today, in the same way that the 60s and 70s did previously.
"Somehow, there is a freedom in parts of 80s music that resonates among a new generation of musicians and fans."

The best band ever of the Led Zeppelin. ‘I’m In A Rock And Roll Band!’ crowned the Seventies rock gods, after boiling it down to a short list of three: Zep, Queen and The Beatles.
All good choices, of course, coming from a longlist of The Clash, The Jimi Hendrix Experience, Joy Division, Nirvana, Radiohead, The Rolling Stones & The Smiths. Presumably a lot of names got weeded out along the way but it’s hard to argue with Led Zeppelin, an incredible coming together of nice musicians who pushed and pulled rock music in a host of new directions while fundamentally defining what it meant to be a hard, heavy, sexy rock band.
But personally, I would put them third on the list. The Beatles and The Rolling Stones are the bands who set almost the entire parameters for rock music in the Sixties. They remain the quintessential rock bands, and everything that followed is a kind of offshoot, either by reacting against them, or following through on their inspiration. Led Zeppelin certainly took up the baton and charged into the Seventies, but by that time the core of what it meant to be a rock band had already been defined.
I was talking this morning to the great English folk and rock guitarist Richard Thompson (he’s curating the Meltdown festival which starts this week). I made an observation about how rarely you hear the electric guitar in modern pop records, to which he retorted, “Good, its about time”. His argument was that the truly original and creative use of the guitar dominated rock template was essentially over by 1971, but its visceral and commercial entreaty is so great it has lingered on long past its sell by date.

Robert Plant still isn’t reuniting Led Zeppelin, but he is digging deep into his past for the name of his next project. Coming off a successful collaboration with the bluegrass singer and fiddler Alison Krauss, Mr. Plant, left, will next hit the road with a group called the Band of Joy, a name cribbed from the 1960s group from Birmingham, England, in which he performed with the future Led Zeppelin drummer John Bonham.

In a news release Mr. Plant said the lineup for the new Band of Joy would include the singer Patty Griffin, the instrumentalist and vocalist Darrell Scott, the bassist Byron House, the drummer Marco Giovino and the guitarist Buddy Miller. The band will begin a 12-city tour on July 13 in Memphis and conclude on July 31 in Miami; it is also preparing an album.

UNRELEASED LED ZEPPELIN RECORDING DISCOVERED AT CAR BOOT SALE

A previously undiscovered bootleg of a 1971 Led Zeppelin gig has been unearthed at a car boot sale.

The gig, from the band's 1971 show at St Matthew's Baths Hall in Ipswich features tracks including 'Immigrant Song', 'Whole Lotta Love', 'Stairway To Heaven', 'Rock & Roll', and 'Black Dog'.

Bargain hunter Vic Kemp bought the CD bootleg at a car boot sale in Portman Road, Suffolk, and told the Evening Star that he picked it up for just "two or three pounds".

He explained: "I was going through a stand of CDs at the car boot at Portman Road and the guy who was selling them said, "you might be interested in this"."

Kemp continued by saying that the gig "must have been recorded by someone standing at the front with a microphone. You can hear Robert Plant talking to the audience quite clearly."

It's currently unclear whether any duplicate recordings of the tape have been made.

Led Zeppelin's plan to find a replacement singer for Robert Plant "fell by the wayside", bassist John Paul Jones has explained.The bassist, now playing in Them Crooked Vultures with Dave Grohl and Josh Homme, said that despite he and guitarist Jimmy Page auditioning potential frontmen, they couldn't agree on a new band member."

Jimmy and I rehearsed a bit with [drummer] Jason Bonham and we couldn't really agree on singers and that fell by the wayside," he told BBC 6 Music. Led Zeppelin band in Worthing Swine flu strikes down

Tribute band Led Zeppelin has been forced to cancel a show after three members caught swine flu.
Whole Lotta Led was due to perform tonight at the Assembly Hall in Worthing.
The band is the second act to have to cancel their performance because of illness.
Michael McIntyre also had to postpone his sold out gig Michael McIntyre Live and Laughing at The Brighton Centre last night after being struck down by flu.
In a message on the Whole Lotta Led website under the heading “Whole Lotta Flu” a statement said: “Due to three members of the band having gone down with swine flu we have had to cancel Friday's gig in Worthing.
“The band hate cancelling gigs but in the current circumstances they have no choice, many apologies for any inconvenience caused.”
A spokeswoman for Worthing Theatres said the show had been popular and it was hoped that it could be rescheduled in the future.
She said: "Unfortunately several band members of Whole Lotta Led have been confirmed as having swine flu and consequently cannot perform. We apologise for any inconvenience caused and hope the band gets better soon.
"Tickets will be refunded and any ticket queries should be directed to the box office on 01903 206206."
She added that people who had purchased tickets for the show will be notified if it is rescheduled.
Michael McIntyre’s show has been rescheduled to take place on November 15.
A Brighton Centre spokeswoman said: “It is never something we like to do but Michael is not very well so it is unfortunate, but these things happen.
“We have been quite pleased with the way we have been able to use new technology like Twitter and our website to try and tell people as quickly as possible to minimise the inconvenience.
“Hopefully people who are disappointed will be able to come on November 15 instead.”
Anyone who is not able to attend the event on the new date will be able to get a refund.

Former Led Zeppelin bassist John Paul Jones claims he is happy the group didn't reunite as it would have prevented him from working with his new band Them Crooked Vultures.
Led Zeppelin didn't reform, John Paul Jones is "happy".
It had been planned for the veteran group to reunite - possibly without singer Robert Plant - last year, but the idea was later scrapped and the bassist went on to join super group Them Crooked Vultures with Foo Fighters' Dave Grohl and Josh Homme from Queens of the Stone Age, a move John Paul admits wouldn't otherwise have been possible.

There's place for me there, but I have no idea who with." Asked if he's open to perform at Worthy Farm next year, the legend added: "There is a opportunity yeah, but I don't know with who." Led Zeppelin may not be embarking on a reunion tour, but it’s not because John Paul Jones isn’t ready.
Blues at the sunday night of the 63 year old Zep bassist proved more than fit for duty, stepping lively with the new supergroup Them Crooked Vultures through a dynamic 82 minute set.
Jones is clearly jazzed to be joining another thunderous rhythm section, as Dave Grohl of Foo Fighters held down the drum seat with the same combination of skill and mania he exhibited during his tenure with Nirvana. One of the night’s great pleasures was watching Grohl pound away with a Cheshire cat grin, free from frontman pressures. Queens of the Stone Age singer guitarist Josh Homme led the way with courtly charm and a full arsenal of blistering riffs and dynamic vocals, darting from stoner drone to funky falsetto.
Sheer hard rocking power in terms, the trio, augmented by guitarist Alain Johannes, lived up to the pre show buzz. This was no mean feat considering the band has yet to release an album it’s due later this year and the erratic track record of supergroups in general.
Sensibly, given the personnel, each tune was built on a sturdy guitar lick and anchored by a taut groove. Sometimes the vibe was fast and furious, as on opener “Elephants.’’ A giddy disco energy infected “Gunman.’’ “Spinning in Daffodils’’ was a low-down, grunge-encrusted rocker that gave way to an elegiac Jones piano solo. Several tunes evolved into epic jams spiraling up and down in energy, from short bursts of riffage to longer solos. The expansive yet stomping improv seemed fitting for a band reportedly formed in a medieval-themed restaurant.
As the show progressed, the fatigue of the unfamiliar began to set in - no songs from the musicians’ original groups were performed - but the playing remained top-notch.
The ovation that Jones received from the rapt and heavily male sold-out crowd was shared by his bandmates onstage, who seemed to vibrate with excitement about their good fortune to play with a legend, and one still so nimble at that.

In 1968, the members of what would soon be named Led Zeppelin were snapped outside a Scandinavian club by a fan. The images of Robert Plant, Jimmy Page, John Paul Jones and John Bonham are candid, slightly fuzzy and extremely

rare, but now fans can check them out in the new book Good Times, Bad Times: A Visual Biography of the Ultimate Band. The hard cover title, out earlier via Abrams publishers this month, collects shots of the legendary quartet that focus on their off stage lives: the rockers decompressing in the countryside, spending time with their families, composing in the studio.

In his introduction to the book, Anthony DeCurtis recalls seeing Led Zeppelin for the first time, and what it was like actually being in the studio with the band when he was on assignment for a Rolling Stone cover story. “The entire set was mesmerizing,” he writes of experiencing the band live as a high school student. “Page soloed spectacularly on every song, and the ecstatic call-and-response exchanges he and Plant engaged in were galvanizing.”

As rock books go, they simply don't get much more complete than this. That the subject of Charles R. Cross' Shadows Taller Than Our Souls is Led Zeppelin who arguably stand only behind the Beatles as the biggest rock band of all time only strengthens the appeal of this book.
If you think that everything that could possibly be written about Led Zeppelin has already been committed to paper, you are for the most part absolutely correct. What sets this book apart from the rest, though, is the treasure trove of extras and bonus goodies you'll find while thumbing your way through its pages. For Led Zeppelin fanatics, this is not just a must own it is in many ways a holy grail of sorts.
Shadows Taller Than Our Souls its title is taken from one of the lyrics to "Stairway To Heaven" is the Led Zeppelin fan's ultimate coffee table book. Housed in a beautiful hardbound slipcase, every page of this lovingly assembled book reveals a new surprise.
There are pages that fold out to reveal never before released photographs of the band, as well as things like reproduced ticket stubs and press releases nicely tucked in between nearly every page.
You get things like the Atlantic Records promo the new cover E.P. for Led Zep's first album, an invite to Zep's first appearance at the 1969 Seattle Pop Festival, and the ticket stubs from Zeppelin concerts in the seventies (at the then outrageous price of $12.50 a ticket).
Towards the end of the book, there is even an original pull out of the press release announcing Led Zeppelin's breakup following the death of drummer John Bonham. There is also an audio CD of a rare Jimmy Page interview with Trouser Press journalist Dave Schulps.
For his own part, Charles R. Cross focuses in on the music, rather than the sort of sordid sex and drugs and rock 'n' roll details of previous Zeppelin bios most notably Stephen Davis' Hammer Of The Gods. A wise move considering the fact that Zep's reputation for road excess has pretty much been covered to death in previous tomes.

Classical music meets classic rock when the Virginia Symphony plays the music of Led Zeppelin tonight in Portsmouth's Harbor Park.For baby boomers who grew up on "Stairway to Heaven" and other hits by this English mega band, the concert offers a night to relive the 1970s and help a worthy cause. Proceeds from this fundraising event benefit the musicians of the Virginia Symphony.Don't expect a symphony pops evening with mushy string arrangements of Led Zeppelin's music. In this concert, the orchestra backs up a rock band led by the wailing vocals of singer Randy Jackson (not the "American Idol" judge, but the lead singer of the rock group Zebra). "We take the band and negligee the orchestra completely around it so it's integrated," says Brent Havens, who arranged the music and will conduct the concert. "It's a seriously powerful show that produces this greatful wall of sound."Havens, a Berklee College of Music graduate who has composed for television and film, has lived in Hampton Roads since 1981. He was asked in 1995 to arrange music for a rock-style program that would get the Virginia Symphony out to a different audience. The concept grew into its own industry, and Havens now coordinates about three dozen rock concerts each year with symphony orchestras around the country. Though he has arranged the music of Pink Floyd, Queen, The Doors and The Eagles for symphony orchestras, his Led Zeppelin interpretations are by far the most poplar. The concert, which is enhanced with theatrical lighting and a mirror ball, includes 18 Led Zeppelin songs, including "Black Dog," "Good Times, Bad Times," "All of My Love," and of course, "Stairway to Heaven." Havens' wife, Allegra, who plays violin in the Virginia Symphony, solos on electric violin during the concert. Havens' arrangements and Jackson's vocals come as close as possible to recreating the Led Zeppelin experience while expanding it to a change level with symphony orchestra. "Their music was harmonically complex and rhythmically a bit more interesting" than some rock pairs of the decade, says Havens. "The fans who know this music actually know it."

The other band on the bill, Get The Led Out, has been dubbed by the media as "The American Led Zeppelin." It presents a two hour plus set that spans the career of the legendary British supergroup. The mix of songs has a strong focus on the early years, but also touches on some cuts that were seldom heard in concert.
Get The Led Out does not attempt to portray Robert Plant, Jimmy Page, John Bonham and John Paul Jones, or the band's live show. Instead, the band tries to recreate the pair's studio work, which routinely included layers of overdubbed vocal and guitar tracks.

Boot-Led-Zeppelin play on Saturday, October 3 at 7.30pm.
The group are said faithfully perform all the legendary band's classic songs including Whole Lotta Love, Stairway To Heaven, The Song Remains The Same and Dazed And Confused.
Broadcaster Fearne Cotton is said to be a big fan, describing them as "the nearest thing I have heard to the Lords of Rock. They got me so close to my true fantasy of hearing Led Zep live."

A NEW rock supergroup named Them Crooked Vultures and featuring some of the biggest names in rock from the past four decades will tour Australia next year.
Secrecy surrounds the recordings and touring plans of Them Crooked Vultures, which features Josh Homme (Queens of the Stone Age, Kyuss) on vocals and guitar, Led Zeppelin bassist John Paul Jones, and former Nirvana drummer and Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl on drums.
Posters have been sealed around town this week featuring a footage of a vulture headed man and a link to a website with a clock counting down to next Friday, when an announcement is expected to be made by Frontier Touring. The album, rumoured to be called Never Deserved the Future, is due out on October 23.
Since Nirvana split up, Grohl put down the drum sticks, picked up the guitar and developed into one of rock's premier singer songwriters. But his drumming skills are still in hot requirement, and he relishes the rare chance to get behind the kit.
Not all supergroups are a success; sometimes egos overshadow the music. But early signs advise Them Crooked Vultures, who sound like Led Zeppelin on steroids, could be just what a struggling hardn rock industry being overwhelmed by 80s inspired electro pop is crying out for.
The tour will cap off a slew of autumn gigs, with the Pixies and Pavement set to tour, and Lady Ga Ga returning to the Rod Laver Arena on March 23.

Dave Grohl, John Paul Jones and Josh Homme has been named are long-rumoured supergroup featuring, and the band are set to make their live debut this weekend.
The trio, whose collaboration was leaked last month, are called Them Crooked Vultures. They will apparently make their worldwide debut on Sunday (9 August) at an afterparty for the Lollapalooza festival in Chicago.
A holding site in what is believed to be the new band's name was launched last week without announcement, with the estlabish message "deserve the future".

Then on Tuesday, fans on the Lollapolooza mailing list were invited to apply for tickets for a show at the Metro Venue this Sunday. Although no band name is listed, the logos for Foo Fighters, Queens of the Stone Age and Led Zeppelin appear alongside each other. Tickets go on sale at 10am on Thursday (6 August) and are limited to two per person.
Sources close to Grohl, Homme and Jones are insisting that the gig does not represent confirmation that the supergroup will continue to play live or will necessarily lead to an album, saying that the band is merely "a few friends talking". But it is understood that the musicians have been working together on and off for the last three years.

Led Zeppelin was initially shaped in 1968 by guitarist Jimmy Page below the name “The New Yardbirds,” based on Page’s prior band, The Yardbirds. whilst The New Yardbirds arose at first just to complete some shows pledges reserved in Scandinavia before the original band’s break-up, Page attempted to create a rock-supergroup out of the new band, which would have been composed of the Yardbirds’ own Page and Jeff Beck, The Who’s Keith Moon and John Entwistle (who were considering leaving their band), and possibly Steve Winwood or Steve Marriott.

After Page’s effort at making a supergroup unsuccessful, Page packed the band with vocalist Robert Plant, drummer John Bonham and long-time friend and fellow London footage session player John Paul Jones. Page’s first choice as singer, Terry Reid, refused the chance but selflessly suggested Plant, who acknowledged and then brought in his old friend Bonham from the defunct Band of Joy.

After a number of concerts with this new arrangement billed too much as the New Yardbirds, or from time to time simply The Yardbirds, the band’s name was distorted to Led Zeppelin, after a comment was made by The Who’s drummer Keith Moon at the same time as the New Yardbirds supergroup was still a opportunity. Moon (although some attribute the comment to the Who’s bassist John Entwistle) was quoted saying that the band would go down faster than a “lead zeppelin”. The band took on the name, intentionally misspelling the first part to stop fans from speaking it as “leed.”
